This time of year holds some of my favorite days! I love the holidays and look forward to them each year. Even though Guy and I spent Thanksgiving alone and will do the same for Christmas...I couldn't be happier. We have so much to be thankful for this year and have had so many changes in our lives that spending the holidays alone haven't been so bad. This time next year we will have an almost one-year old....that sounds crazy!...and will definitely spend the holidays with our families. In the past it has been easy as we have traded off holidays ever other year, but with the baby, that may not be as easy as both sides will want to spend time with her (maybe not so much us! :) ) We did do Facetime with Guy's family on Thanksgiving as Guy's mom and I both have iPads....that was really nice. I went around the house and was able to show them our house. I think we are going to do that again at Christmas and my family may try doing that, or Skype, as well. Our mom's will be staying with us for awhile once the baby comes. The extra pair of hands for me will be a blessing and Guy is looking forward to having mom and mother-in-law take care of him....or so he seems to think that's how it's going to work. (I think they might want to spend time with their granddaughter more than him though! :) )
Speaking of being blessed....the weather so far has been very mild; something the locals tell us is not normal and to watch out when winter really hits. We are supposed to have a VERY cold winter with lots of snow. If you don't know this about the two of us, well.....neither one of us like winter. Haha! So far we have had a couple of really cold days, but they didn't feel near as cold as they would have been in IL because it's a dry cold here. I'd say total accumulation of snow so far has been about an inch...this time last year they had like 20 inches on the ground! We've had a couple of gorgeous days where the temperatures were near 50+ so any snow we've had is gone or close to it. Since Guy's used to working outside he's good about putting on lots of layers....I will need to make sure I do the same.
We are pretty much settled in our new home and won't do hardly anything else around here until spring/summer as the garage is the area that needs to be tackled. All I can say is....at least I can park my car in there! :) The yard will also be an area that I hope gets done this summer; but as long as we have grass, it might be good enough. I'll just see how much I can get accomplished doing flowerbeds and such with a little one. Hopefully she'll let me get some things done while Guy is working and then the rest will have to happen on the weekends, or other times, when Guy is actually home. (He works a ton and is hardly ever here it seems like!) Currently the builder of our home has begun construction on two more houses next to us. They are scheduled to be completed in the early spring....walls have started going up so things are moving along.
Baby and I seem to be doing great! She is very active these days, but is running out of room to move around. I am starting to get more uncomfortable each day, but she'll be worth it all in the end! If I don't drink enough water, or have to much salt in my diet that day, I can definitely tell a difference in the way I feel and based on the fact I start swelling up. I will be headed to the doctor for check-ups every week now....so crazy we're 6 weeks from my due date. She is measuring right on schedule, too.
I still need to work on posting some pictures on here....maybe after the new year I'll get around to playing around with that function.

Life in North Dakota....so far
We finally moved into our ND home on Nov. 9....only about a month and a half later than we thought. At least we are finally lving in the same house again! The new house is very nice. The dogs do however really miss our large yard in IL. The yard here is so tiny and it's just dirt/mud right now. Between the two dogs, Fitz least likes the dirt yard and won't do his "big business", so we have totake him to the empty lot across from us or be prepared to find a "present" waiting in the basement. It's hard to get too mad at him as I wouldn't like the dirt either if I were a dog.
I haven't taken pictures yet of the house as I need Guy to hang up things on the walls for me. I was hoping to have painted while my mom was here, but there just wasn't enough time. I'll eventually get around to it, but it will probably be over the summer or something. Painting will create some challenges as the corners are rounded off, and not square. It looks nicer rounded, but makes it harder when it comes to what walls to paint. Most everything is unpacked and the way I want it...mostly thanks to my mom as I couldn't have done everything without her! Part of our family room is storage for my mountain of boxes from my old classroom. My goodness do I have a lot! One thing I don't like about the house is I don't have a storage room. There is storage under our entryway, but it's hard to get to and it's not a big area. One thing I thought was odd is that my laundry closet is in one of our bedrooms downstairs. It's not ideal, but it will work for us since it's just a spare bedroom.
It's hard to believe that it's already the week of Thanksgiving. I can't believe how quickly the last year has flown by! Guy and I will be spending the holidays alone. A coworker of his did invite us over Thursday, so we might take her up on the offer, but I think we would be happy to just spend it just the two of us as well. We probably would have traveled home for Christmas, but I won't be able to travel then because I'll be too close to my due date. We can't believe there are about 10 weeks left. Our mom's would much rather visit us once Baby Girl comes...I can understand that! :) Since it's just us for Christmas this year I don't think I will decorate as much as I normally do...I say that now, but I just love decorating for the holidays!
I haven't seen too much of the town yet, but I do know how to get to a few places. Some things I have learned so far:
1. Winter comes too quickly! It's already been in the single digits and there's a dusting of snow on the ground.
2. On Sunday's retail stores don't open until noon. If they are 24 hour stores, like Wal-Maet, they close at midnight on Saturday.
3. Cars around here are always filthy on the outside....and you can't even get a car wash until noon on Sunday.
4. Milk is about a dollar more a gallon here than what I was paying in IL.
5. People are very friendly and helpful!
6. The timezone difference is weird. Stations are based out of Bismarck, which is Central time, and Dickinson is Mountain time. So, I watch the 5o'clock news at 4....you get the idea. :)Plus there are places Guy has to go to for work that are Central time, even though they are northwest of us.
7. people pronounce things differently...I'm sure we'll start talking like the locals eventually though. It's bound to happen. I'm sure they think we talk differently as well.
8. No one gets in a hurry about anything. Everyone seems to be super laid back.
9. The locals have mixed feelings about newcomers due to the oil boom. Some like the growth, some don't.
10. Housing prices keep going up! The contractor who built our house is set to build another next door to us. The buyer has an option between a ranch, like ours, or a split-level. The base price of the house has already jumped from when we put an offer on ours and it still doesn't include finishing the basement....which we had to pay more for as well.
11. I've never seen so many split-level homes until driving through ND. Even when we were in Bismarck we noticed a ton of split-levels. When Guy and I went house hunting in August out here we didn't go through many ranches.
12. It's nothing to drive an hour or more to get somewhere or go somewhere.
13. You can buy gas, alcohol and guns all at the same place...we found that funny.
I think that's all...for now at least.

The big move...
We closed on our house in ND on October 20. We ran into a couple of issues, but all should be resolved soon! After closing Guy called and scheduled the move. We were told that the packers would show up on Halloween and they would load on Nov. 1. With that said, Guy came home Friday! It was so wonderful to see him after 8 LONG weeks! We enjoyed the weekend together and spent some time with a few friends and lunch with family that was able to make it on Sunday.
When the loaders got there yesterday they were in for a long day as the packers didn't get near accomplished what they should have accomplished. We were assured that everytjing would get done and they worked their butts off and finished packing and loading everything around 6:45 pm. They took a lot more than we thought they would, so we didn't have a ton of stuff to take with us in our vehicals. We have stayed with my mom the last couple of nights; and I will continue to do so until she and I leave. This morning, Guy and I did a few things around the house and he left about 10:30 am to head back. I know he's going to try and drive it all today, but I'm hoping he stops....I'll worry about him until he gets back.
The movers won't be at our new house until Wed, Nov 9, so my mom and I won't leave until Monday morning. Our plan is to drive half-way and stop for the night. On Tuesday we'll drive to Bismarck and stay there, as there is probably not anything available in Dickinson but we'll certainly check, and them head over to our house early Wednesday morning. Bismarck is about an hour and a half from Dickinson....plus you gain an hour because Dickinson is in the Mountain Time Zone. Until Monday I'll probably wrap things up here and do some cleaning at the other house....although Guy's mom has offered to clean and that for us....thank you to Sue!
We are also happy to say we are under contract on our home in Maryville! Closing is scheduled for Thanksgiving week. We hope everything goes well and we sell our house. The market in the St. Louis area is horrible, but we are thankful we've been able to sell so quickly.

We can finally see the light....
We FINALLY have news of the closing on our North Dakota home! Guy and I have been apart for over six weeks now....much longer than we'd originally thought! I can't begin to say how excited I am to be back together as a family. I definately have a new found respect for military families....and This isn't even close to what they experience! Being apart from a spouse is certainly not easy. This would have been horrible had we already had kids. With all that being said...
Guy will be touring our completed home on Thursday. He'll take pictures for me, but we've already talked about the specific things he is to look for that we'd put in the contract and that were on the original house plans already. As long as everything passes his approval, he will sign the closing paperwork. The bank will then overnight me the paperwork and I will sign and have them notarized. Once the bank gets the paperwork back from me, we will officially own the house! Then comes the coordination of the moving company. Guy won't schedule the movers until he's seen the completed house, just incase something is wrong and we won't/can't close. He always said that if something is to go wrong, it will because he's Guy Aman and that's just what happens to him. It does seem that things tend to go wrong for him. Once the movers are scheduled, he will come back and help me with the move and load things up that the movers won't take between our two vehicles. Guy can make the drive quicker than what I will be able to, I will have to stop about every two hours to walk so I don't end up with a blood clot...the joys of long-distance traveling while pregnant! Hopefully we will be able to do it in a super long day, but not sure if I'll be able to swing it or not. My mom is supposed to be riding with me so that'll be a huge help.
For almost the last two weeks Guy has had some much needed company. His/our dog, Barley, was lucky enough to be reunited with his daddy. Guy has a buddy who goes to ND hunting every year, just south of where we'll be living, and offered to take him up there. Barley rides around with Guy in his truck everyday and they have done a bit of hunting already. Last weekend Guy's dad and brother were up there hunting with him and Guy said Barley did awesome. I'm glad Guy has had some company as I know I'd be lost without having Fitz or Kipper around.
I'm just over 25 weeks along in my pregnancy and everything is still going well! She is kicking more and more....and I'm loving it! I can now have my hand on my stomachache and feel her when she kicks...I'm so looking forward to Guy feeling her as well!
Once we have the official moving date I will let everyone know. I'll also pass along our new address. Please continue to pray that these next two weeks go by smoothly and safely.

A week and a half down...
The animals and I have survived a week and a held with Guy in ND. Barley still constantly looks for Guy, but I think he's enjoying cuddling with me quite a lot. He and Fitz have taken over Guy's side of the bed...didn't take them long to sprawl out at all. :) they've definitely been testing their boundaries with me...something they know better than to do with Guy. Hopefully they will continue acting pretty good; they do have their moments though!
Guy is getting the feel of his new job. Once he gets bested acquainted with it, I think he'll really like it. He already likes it more than what he'd been doing. We were happy his old job had been keeping him busy, but he did not enjoy what it was. He says the people in the office are nice and he's getting to know some of them. The best thing so far for him is probably that he's been able to go dove hunting. He bought a book that shows all the public hunting land and he's found a couple places to go already. He wishes I could mail Barley to him so they could do some serious hunting....Barley wishes the same thing!
On Saturday Guy went and checked out the progress of our house. He even figured out how to take pictures on his new work iPhone and email/text them to me. That is quite an accomplishment for him as he is not tech savvy at all. :) Due to a couple of things it's looking like we won't close on the house at the end of the month like we'd hoped. We're now hoping for around October 7th. Until then, we'd REALLY like to get an offer on our house here and get that process under way as well. Out in ND it would have sold super quickly; it's crazy to think of the difference of the housing markets from where we are now to where we're going...complete opposites.
Sunday morning when we talked we were both on our way to church. Guy checked out a church for us out there. I think he's going to go back and get a better feel for it. He didn't have anything negative to say about it, so hopefully this Sunday will be good as well. It's hard to find a church; we went through that here and are sorry to be learving were we've been attending. We really enjoy the minister at our current church and that makes all the difference.
Yesterday was my 20 week checkup. Everything sounded great. Her heart rate was at 153. I worked on a couple of craft projects for her as well. I made a couple of bows and I painted and decorated some wooden letters that will go probably over her crib. I think everything turned out cute and Guy was surprised to here I knew how to do things like that. I told him it comes from my college years being in a sorority. Today I'm going to make her a bow holder. I bought some ribbons yesterday, but I need to go pick up a couple other things this morning after looking at some picture options last night online. I also got a cute footstool really cheap when I was at Michael's yesterday that I want to put fabric on. I had a child's rocker reupholstered and I want it to go with that chair. This rocker was my mom's when she was little and she had it redone for me, so I thought it only fitting to do the same for my daughter. If you ever saw it before, you wouldn't recognize it. It looks awesome! Our baby furniture should be here at our house the last Monday or Tuesday of September. I can't wait to see it. We had Amish furniture made, so we know it will last her forever. I have a lady making custom crib bedding and my mom's neighbor is making me some curtains and throw pillows so her room is coming right along. We can't wait to see it altogether!
One day I'll play around with adding some pictures to our blog. I haven't really sat down and messed with this too much. I think that's all our news for now. :)

It's a GIRL!
Yesterday was the day we found out we're expecting a little princess! She was very active and was being difficult when it came to seeing what she was. I'm glad we got a good look though because I am a huge planner! She already has some very long legs...hopefully she will be tall like us. Her heart rate was at 136 yesterday. Maybe she'll be more calm like her daddy. :) it was awesome to already see her on the sonogram. We got some really great pictures. I am hoping we get to see her again before I deliver.
Guy and I are officially both unemployed; at least until Guy starts his new job next Tuesday. With that said, Guy is leaving at around midnight Saturday night/Sunday morning. I will love spending time with him this week, but I am dreading him leaving. I hope to stay plenty busy while we are apart to make the time go faster and not seem so bad. I think the dogs will miss him as much as I will. They are thrilled when he comes home, even if he's just gone for a very short amount of time.

Let the nerves set in...
We had our 16 week check up tonight. The heartbeat was 148...sounding like a boy! We officially find out August 29. We were supposed to find out September 13, but Guy is leaving Labor Day weekend to start his new job in ND. I can't wait to find out what we're having, but I'm not looking forward to Guy leaving. I'll be in IL for at least 3 weeks without him. :(
We can also say that we are under contract on a house out in ND. It is a new build, so we are hoping the builder will be done by the end of September. He would have been finished sooner, but we offered more money for him to finish the basement. When the house is finished, it will have 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms...2 bedrooms on each level with 2 baths up and one down. The main living space upstairs is open concept and then downstairs there is also a family room. The house would be just about perfect, but the yard is horrible! We have almost an acre here, so the boys are going to not be happy with the new yard. Our neighborhood is newer, so hopefully we will meet other couples close to our age. Eventually we plan to buy some land and build a house. For now though, we feel we made the right decision. We have plenty of room for company...so come visit! :)
Hopefully I answered some questions about the house. I know people were wondering about it. I will definitely add pictures once there is something to actually show. :) All I can really show are pictures I took and it is only of a framed house...it's hard to tell what anything is too much right now.

The main living space upstairs is open concept and then downstairs there is also a family room. The house would be just about perfect, but the yard is horrible! We have almost an acre here, so the boys are going to not be happy with the new yard. Our neighborhood is newer, so hopefully we will meet other couples close to our age. Eventually we plan to buy some land and build a house. For now though, we feel we made the right decision. We have plenty of room for company...so come visit! :)
Hopefully I answered some questions about the house. I know people were wondering about it. I will definitely add pictures once there is something to actually show. :) All I can really show are pictures I took and it is only of a framed house...it's hard to tell what anything is too much right now.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something but I can't think of anything right now...

Why the blog.....
Since Guy and I are moving to North Dakota, hopefully by the end of September, I know everyone will want to know what we are up to out there. I thought a blog would be a great way for us to share what we've been up to and to show off Baby Aman once it arrives in January. :)
I'm new to blogging; so hopefully I can catch on very quickly! I'm going to do my best to keep everyone updated...so hold me to it. I will be looking forward to sharing what we're up to, especially once we make the long journey out there.
